Sometimes being far from the hustle and bustle of a busy vacation is just what the doctor ordered. Venture off the path of Miami’s most popular destinations and opt for an under-the-radar getaway. Here are our favorite ways to explore Miami if you have rest and relaxation on your mind.
Get to the Root of Art Deco at The Wolfsonian
Get up close and personal with Miami’s Art Deco past - without the crowds of Ocean Drive. Only steps from Washington Park Hotel’s front door, The Wolfsonian houses over 180,000 unique objects and retro prints which are used to illustrate the persuasive power of art and design. Located in the heart of the Art Deco District in Miami Beach, a visit to the The Wolfsonian museum is complimentary for all WPH guests.
Take an Early Morning Beach Stroll
No trip to SoBe is complete without a visit to the beach. Beat the heat (and the crowds) with an early morning visit. Grab a cup of coffee from one of our favorite Cuban coffee shops and take the short walk east from Washington Park Hotel and through Lummus Park as the sun rises over the Atlantic. The beach is the best place to watch the morning light illuminate the Art Deco buildings that line Ocean Drive.
Explore Little Havana
Miami’s vibrant Cuban neighborhood has plenty of hidden gems worth exploring. Visit the El Fresco art space for local artworks by street art legend Daniel Fila, food trucks, and art workshops. Walk the colorful streets and pop into Little Havana Cigar Factory to watch cigars in the making, as well as to take a seat on their plush chairs and enjoy a cigar as a nod to Miami’s 1930s refined past.
Grab a Bite to Eat at a Quaint Café
News Café, Zak the Baker, Panther Coffee, and All Day MIA are all beloved Miami breakfast institutions that remain pretty chill all day long. For dinner, dine in Mandolin Aegean Bistro’s candle-lit garden, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink in the Design District, or the tiki-themed Broken Shaker in Miami Beach offering innovative drinks and bar bites in their lush, secluded back patio.
Check out the Up-and-Coming Sunset Harbour Neighborhood
Tucked away in the northwest corner of South Beach, Sunset Harbour is a trendy micro-neighborhood that is packed with independent boutiques and restaurants. Stick to 20th Street and Purdy Avenue for excellent Biscayne Bay views from Maurice Gibb Memorial Park and the highest concentration of shops and eateries. Visit Barceloneta for Spanish tapas, Pubbelly for fresh sushi, and Purdy Lounge for craft brews, live music, and low-key vibes.
Sip a Cocktail in Peace
Finding a quiet place to enjoy a craft cocktail isn’t the easiest when you’re in America’s party capital. Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite bars that are off the beaten path. Sweet Liberty, Mac’s Club Deuce, and Lagniappe’s wine bar in downtown are all filled with hidden magic.
Namaste with Glow Hot Yoga
Start the day anew with an early morning workout session at South Beach’s Glow Hot Yoga studio. Take the quiet, shady walk north along Meridian Avenue to Glow Hot Yoga’s 105-degree space. Glow Hot Yoga has classes like Bikram and Hot Pilates starting as early as 7 a.m. Check out their full schedule of classes (free for Washington Park Hotel guests!). Make sure to reserve your spot in advance and bring your WPH keycard for entry.
